The William Davidson Institute (WDI) is a non-profit located at the University of Michigan, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Founded in 1992, WDI focuses on business in the emerging markets.

The Global Summit on Educating Entrepreneurs was inspired by WDI's successful track record of training entrepreneurs in emerging markets.

From 2004-06, under a grant from the U.S. State Department, WDI trained over 100 entrepreneurs from throughout Morocco, including a cohort of 25 women from the handicraft sector. WDI has also provided leaders from 40 SMEs in Europe with scholarships to attend our 10-day, mini-MBA programs. WDI is currently providing entrepreneurship training to 60 Rwandan entrepreneurs per year from throughout Rwanda as part of Goldman Sachs' 10,000 Women project. To date, the Institute has trained 150 Rwandan women in the program.

WDI is home to GlobaLens, publisher and distributor of cutting-edge, impactful teaching materials for excellence in global business education. The collection features over 250 cases, including 50 on entrepreneurship.

WDI is also home to the Base of the Pyramid research initiative, a global leader in exploring the implications of the BoP Perspective for organizational strategy and poverty alleviation.
